Happy 2019 – Welcome to Your New Year of Water Monitoring

You made it. It’s 2019. Goodbye to 2018.

This is our 8th year helping organizations around the world to effectively monitor water and other assets. We’ve learned a bunch from our customers over the years. We’re grateful to share our experiences on how Industrial IoT sensors are helping organizations like yours to save time, money, and lives.

What’s been going on with your water so far this year?

In Virginia, government agencies and water officials are carefully monitoring water levels of dams after flood watches and warnings have been issued. Many dams are getting old and aren’t as structurally sound as they used to be. This is another excellent application of how today’s modern IoT sensor technologies can help save time, money, and lives if they are deployed for flood and water level monitoring.

IoT Monitoring Water Sensors Water Levels Valarm Tools Cloud Tools.Valarm.net Industrial M2M Telemetry IIoT 2Toxic chemicals have been found in the drinking water at homes in Michigan, according to this story. The Department of Environmental Quality has tested the water quality and found dangerous levels of toxins in the water. For some families, their homes had water with over 7 times the toxic levels according to the US EPA.

Water is becoming more and more scarce in the states. The U.S. government has just launched a project funding $100 million for helping to solve America’s water crisis. The research will include finding environmentally and economically sustainable methods for desalinating water in Smart Cities. Finding better, more effective ways to remove salt from water will provide us with a lot more safe, drinkable water.

You have technologies available today (like Industrial IoT, M2M, and sensor telemetry) that will help solve all of these issues above. We sincerely hope that you and your organization integrate Smart Water monitoring systems to help you save time, money, and lives.

End of the Year Water Monitoring News

You’re almost to the end of your year.

What’s going on in your world of water monitoring?

Do we need more water monitoring systems to help us live safer and happier?

IoT Monitoring Water Sensors Water Levels Valarm Tools Cloud Tools.Valarm.net Industrial M2M Telemetry IIoT 1After recent wildfires in the US, like the fires in California, there is now a risk of dangerous water quality contamination. According to this story, water sheds may be contaminated making a critical need for more water quality monitoring systems.

Scientists don’t know exactly what combination of toxic organic compounds, metal mixtures, ash, debris, cars, industrial chemicals, paints, plastics, and other miscellaneous articles have found their way into our watersheds.

Rain and precipitation after wild fires have also caused mudslides and made roads impassable. This is another side of the wild fire issue, where flood warning systems and IoT sensors monitoring water levels are required to keep families and communities safe.

Tools.Valarm.net Water Monitoring Wells Depths Flow Meters Industrial IoT Internet of Things Applications Water Resources Management Sensors Map DashboardIn the southern part of the USA, around Louisiana, there are also dangerous water quality issues. Some folks have to drive for many miles to wash their clothes, do laundry, and buy bottled water since the water at their homes has been making their families sick for months.

Is flooding becoming more intense and dangerous? Heavy rains and flood water levels killed multiple people in Australia a few days ago. The city had a month’s worth of rain in less than 2 hours. What do you think about that?

How do we help? Fortunately, today’s water monitoring systems are more affordable, effective, and easy to deploy. Cloud-based IoT sensor monitoring software makes it simple to verify when everything is ok in our environment or when smart cities need to send out alerts and early warnings.

Water Monitoring in October 2018

Citizens and scientists are asking for more water monitoring. Why do we need more monitoring? This example is sparked by the fact that the red tide has arrived as a surprise on the coasts and beaches of Florida.

Yes it was likely after a hurricane, but why didn’t they know when and receive an alert before it arrived? This is 1 of many reasons why there’s a need for early warning systems and more remote monitoring with water sensors.

Additionally, millions of folks are in life threatening conditions due to poor sanitation and dangerously low water quality. More water quality monitoring systems are needed in the USA and all around our world.

As this article describes, water monitoring may be dull, however it’s absolutely necessary to keep track of all the numbers for making decisions that make sense. Specifically, groundwater well monitoring and observation techniques are needed for effective water resources management.

On the east coast of the US, more and more communities and schools are learning first hand the need for better water monitoring systems. Water quality emergencies continue to emerge and families need to boil water to keep their health safe. As NPR reports, people all over the country are asking for more information about drinking water, since toxins from wells may be negatively affecting our health.

Managing and Monitoring Water Wells in 2018

Water Well Management Systems are critical for you and your family to maintain happy and healthy lives. How do organization effectively monitor water wells, pumps, and water levels? How can natural disasters like hurricanes and flooding affect aquifer and water well health? That’s what we’ll talk about in this write-up.

Tools.Valarm.net Remote Monitoring Systems Water Air Quality Industrial IoT Monitor Sensors 60Hurricane Harvey caused widespread damage in the US, especially in Texas. Local universities and educational institutions like Texas A&M are collaborating to offer free water well testing to private well owners affected by hurricane flood waters.

Since floodwater can have upstream substances like sewage from wastewater treatment plants or flooded septic systems, it’s critical to test flooded water wells before using wells for drinking, cooking delicious meals, or anything else. Many residents in various communities have had private water wells damaged by flooding and needed new tanks and water well systems. Fluorocarbons used at airports and for fire fighting foams can also end up in water wells and reek havoc on communities like this one in Minnesota.

This recent study has called attention to the fact that more and more water systems in the U.S. are violating health standards. Being cost-effective with your water management is key, as damaged water wells can cost thousands of dollars for government agencies, businesses, companies, and other organizations. However, new water management systems can save you millions of dollars a year as demonstrated here. You might now be wondering…

Piezometers and Vibrating Wires for Remotely Monitoring Levees, Bridges, and Water – IoT Applications and Case Studies

What’s a Piezometer?

Piezometers measure pressure of ground water. They’re sensors that are also known as vibrating wires or VWs, but note that they’re much smaller than the German vehicles.

After drilling holes to deploy and measure piezometers, the vibrating wire sensors can report information about pressure in an aquifer.

Basically, piezometers can be used to measure and monitor pressures of liquids.

Water Monitoring and Industrial IoT Sensors for Fluids Telemetry – July 2017 News

Tools.Valarm.net Remote Monitoring Systems Water Air Quality Industrial IoT Monitor Sensors 63 How far will you go for water? To the moon and back? There might be more water on the moon than we thought according to NPR and Scientific American.

During droughts, you’ve got folks all over the U.S. using quite a lot of water, like more than a gallon per minute by these Tampa Bay water hogs. While in Florida, water main breaks and repair activities have caused road closures. And citizens there are advised to boil all water before drinking or cooking. Similarly, Utah residents have been asked to limit water use after a major water line break.

You’re seeing droughts, water rationing, and weird water issues all over the world. In Rome, Italy, the climate, environment, and cities are drier than they’ve been for decades. Due to the heatwave, water sources could be turned off for 8 hours a day.

You ever wondered or been curious about what gets sent down the water drain? Lots of rubber bouncy balls, a rope monster, and even a snapping turtle have been found in wastewater treatment facilities in the Chicago area.

Tools.Valarm.net Remote Monitoring Air Quality Water Pollution Industrial IoT Monitor Sensors 1Even though Michigan is surrounded by the Great Lakes and quite a load of water, there are still critical water crises. For example, there are the 5 state officials charged with involuntary manslaughter for the Flint public health crisis that led to an outbreak of disease, suffering children, and lead poisoning.

But according to this story, global companies and corporations like Nestle don’t pay anything for water, and they’re continuing to increase their water usage. This increase in pumping can lead to negative effects on local wetlands, aquatic habitats, and stream flow.

Also in the Midwest U.S., Minnesota is having more water quality problems. This article calls for something dramatic to happen for water management reform and improvement of water resources.

Since the federal EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) isn’t providing as much money to local and state governments for safeguarding and protecting ecosystems like water and air, other organizations need to help out with mandates and responsibility for monitoring our environment.
